Sampdoria

Unione Calcio Sampdoria is a football club from Italy, from the city of Genoa, in Liguria. It was founded on 12 August 1946, after the merger of Sampierdarenese and Andrea Doria. It plays in Serie B, the second tier of Italian football.

The name "Sampdoria" is an acronym of the names of the two clubs at the origin of its foundation. This union is also reflected in its kit, in which the blue and white shirts of Andrea Doria were combined with the white shirts with a red-and-black band of Sampierdarenese, resulting in a blue shirt with a white-red-black-white band, which gave them the nickname Blucerchiati ("encircled in blue").

Sampdoria plays its home matches at the Estadio Luigi Ferraris, which has a capacity of 35,599 and which it shares with its historic rival, Genoa Cricket & Football Club, against whom it plays the so-called Derby della Lanterna ("Derby of the Lantern").

Its honours include one league championship, won in 1990-91, four Italian Cups and one Italian Super Cup. Internationally, it won the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1989-90, and reached the finals of the European Cup in 1991-92, the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1988-89 and the UEFA Super Cup in 1990.
