Football Club Internazionale Milano 1908 S. P. A., commonly called Internazionale (pronounced /ˌinternattsjoˈnaːle/) or Inter, and better known in the rest of the world as Inter Milan, is a football club from Italy based in the city of Milan, capital of the Lombardy region, and primarily American-owned. It was founded on 9 March 1908 under the name Foot-Ball Club Internazionale.

It is one of the most successful and historically renowned clubs in Italy, Europe and the world. Inter is the second most successful team in Italian football, with 37 domestic titles (20 league titles, 9 cups and 8 supercups), surpassed only by Juventus Football Club. At the international level it has been crowned champion three times in both the UEFA Cup and the European Cup / Champions League (in the 1963-64, 1964-65 and 2009-10 seasons), after which it obtained the Intercontinental Cup twice and the FIFA Club World Cup once.

The club has always played in the top tier of the national championship since its first official match, in 1909, and is the only team that has taken part in every edition of the Serie A, a competition established in 1929, a circumstance it shared until 2006 with Juventus, which was administratively relegated to Serie B after the Calciopoli scandal, which to this day remains debatable.

Inter Milan plays its home matches at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza (also known by the name of the neighborhood, San Siro) since 1947, and shares it with A. C. Milan. The stadium is the largest in Italian football, with a capacity of 75,923. The colors that identify the team are black and blue, and they have been used in the colors of its kit since 1908, except for a brief interlude in 1928 when it adopted a white shirt crossed by a red stripe. Its traditional rivals are A. C. Milan, with whom it contests the Milan derby (popularly known in Italy as the Derby della Madonnina) and Juventus of Turin, whom it faces in the Derby d'Italia (Derby of Italy).

A noteworthy fact is that Inter is the first and only Italian team to have achieved a treble (three titles in the same season), by being crowned champion of the Serie A, the Coppa Italia and the UEFA Champions League in the 2009-10 season, in addition to achieving a quintuple (also winning the Supercoppa Italiana and the Club World Cup), reaching this milestone in 2010.

In addition to Juventus and Milan, it is a member of the select group of only 31 teams in the world that have won the top world club football championship, among more than 300,000 clubs recognized by FIFA. Furthermore, the Nerazzurri were the first Italian club to win both a championship and back-to-back world championships, in 1964 and 1965, and also became the second Italian club with the most world titles by winning the 2010 FIFA Club World Cup held in the USA.

According to statistics compiled by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS), Inter Milan is the third best Italian team and the sixth best in Europe of the 20th century, and the best Italian club and the fifth best in European football of the 21st century, in addition to being ranked sixth in the historical classification of the world club ranking, in which the best clubs in the world were chosen from 1 January 1991 to 31 December 2009. It is also worth noting that, according to the annual club ranking compiled by the same body, it was chosen the Best Team in World Football in 1998 and 2010.

The team is the fourteenth most valuable in the world, with a value of 401 million dollars, according to Forbes magazine. It is one of the most popular clubs in the world, since according to a study carried out in 2010, Inter is the eighth club with the most followers in Europe. It is also worth noting that the club was a founding member of the European Club Association (formerly the G-14), a group made up of the fourteen most powerful and influential clubs in Europe, both economically and in sporting terms.
