Newell's Old Boys

Club Atlético Newell's Old Boys, known simply as Newell's or by its Hispanicised form Ñuls or Ñubel, is a sports club from the city of Rosario, Santa Fe Province, Argentina. It currently plays in the Argentine Primera División.

In 1905, the club began its football activity as part of the Liga Rosarina de Fútbol, while between 1931 and 1938 it took part in the professional tournaments of the Asociación Rosarina de Fútbol. From 1939 it joined the first division, under the AFA.

It has 57 uninterrupted seasons in the Primera División, ranking third in that category. It has the honour of having been the first football club from the interior of the country, among those that exist today, to win an official AFA title, by winning the Copa de Honor in 1911; the only champion with players and a coaching staff trained entirely within the institution, in the 1987–88 Primera División championship; and the only club that made up a complete national team, in the 1976 Pre-Olympic Tournament. Furthermore, it is the eighth team that (as of 2020) has earned the most points in the historical table of the Primera División during the professional era. It is also one of the eight Argentine teams to have won more than a thousand matches in the Primera División.

The club's first team won six Primera División championships, three national cups counting those obtained in both eras, thirteen Rosario leagues, two Segunda leagues, and two Rosario cups. It also won the 1990 Torneo Apertura (a qualifier to play the final of the 1990–91 Primera División championship against the winner of the 1991 Torneo Clausura), which is not recognised by the AFA.

At international level, it has not won an official title, although it was twice a finalist in the Copa Libertadores: in 1988, when it fell to Nacional of Montevideo, and in 1992, when it lost 3–2 on penalties to São Paulo. Moreover, it is the only team from the interior to reach the deciding stage of that competition. It also won the 1943 Copa de Oro Rioplatense, a former friendly tournament played between representative sides of the AFA and the Asociación Uruguaya de Fútbol, which has no official recognition from CONMEBOL. Newell's Old Boys is the seventh Argentine team in the Conmebol Copa Libertadores ranking, being the best club from the interior of the country placed in that ranking.

As of 2020 it has nine official titles to its name, having won 6 Primera División leagues and 3 national cups (1 in the professional era and 2 in the amateur era), being the second best from the interior placed in this category. It also ranks eighth (first from the interior) in the Argentine ranking of clubs with the most official titles in the professional era.

It is one of the clubs that claim to be "one of the big ones" of Argentine football and was incorporated into their deliberations, by invitation, in 1943, following its great drawing power and meritorious campaigns in the Primera División since its entry in 1939.

Furthermore, it is one of the 11 Argentine institutions that make up the gallery of "FIFA classic clubs".

Its classic rival is Club Atlético Rosario Central, identified with the Arroyito neighbourhood of the city of Rosario, with whom it plays the "Clásico rosarino". This derby ranks third in importance, behind the Superclásico of Argentine football and the Clásico de Avellaneda. The match is the oldest derby still being played and one of the best attended in Argentina.

It has played its home matches since 1911 at the Marcelo Bielsa, popularly known as El Coloso del Parque, which has a capacity of 42,000 spectators.

It also has a number of branches and supporters' clubs, located both in Argentina and in various places around the world. It also has 48,000 associated members.

The club places emphasis on the development of footballers. Its youth divisions have produced footballers who would go on to join the Argentina national team and later become champions of international competitions such as the Confederations Cup, the Olympic Games, the Copa América and the World Cup.
