Gimnasia de Mendoza

Club Atlético Gimnasia y Esgrima, popularly known as "Gimnasia de Mendoza", "Lobo mendocino" ("Mendoza Wolf") or by its acronym "GEM", is an Argentine sports institution of the city of Mendoza, in the province of the same name, whose main activity is professional football. It was officially founded on 30 August 1908, by a group of members with innovative ideas belonging to the "Club de Pelota", a department created by the paronymous Club de Gimnasia y Esgrima to encourage the practice of ball sports, from which it eventually split, giving rise to the present organisation. It currently plays in the Primera Nacional, where it has competed continuously since 2018.

The club is considered one of the four great clubs of Mendoza football, being to date, at regional level, the second team with the most championships, with a total of 20 titles, while at national level it is, together with Godoy Cruz and San Martín, the team that has played most often in the Argentine Primera División, with nine participations in what was the Campeonato Nacional. It plays its home matches at the Estadio Víctor Antonio Legrotaglie, which it owns. This venue has a capacity of 14,000 spectators, making it the fifth-largest football stadium in Mendoza. Its traditional rival is Independiente Rivadavia, with whom it contests the "clásico mendocino" (Mendoza derby). Other traditional rivalries are those it maintains with Atlético Argentino, Deportivo Maipú and San Martín.
