Vélez Sarsfield

Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield is a sports organisation in Argentina based in the Liniers neighbourhood of Buenos Aires. It was founded on 1 January 1910 and its main activity is football, whose first team takes part in the Liga Profesional de Fútbol. It is one of the most decorated and representative clubs of Argentine football, having been crowned Primera División champion on 10 occasions, along with 5 international titles and one national cup. Its stadium is the José Amalfitani.

Vélez won its first title, the Campeonato Nacional, in 1968, and after going through a period of alternating good and bad campaigns during the 1970s and 1980s, the club began its greatest period of success in the 1990s. Since 1993, the club has won 15 official titles: nine additional Primera División titles, five international titles and one national cup. In 1994 it was crowned world champion and won the Copa Libertadores de América, and in 1996 it won a treble of titles. It is the second team that has played uninterruptedly for the longest time at the top level of the country's official championships, with 79 consecutive seasons in the Primera División —of which it was a founding member in its professional form in 1931— and, in turn, it belongs to the select group of the only 29 teams in the world that have won the highest club football championship at world level.

Identified by its nickname "el Fortín", it is a non-profit civil association, its ownership resting with its 43,900 members. Its historic rival is Ferro Carril Oeste, with whom it makes up the Clásico del Oeste, which has not been played since 2000 owing to the latter's absence from the Primera División. The matches it plays against San Lorenzo are of very strong rivalry.

In addition to football, it stands out in volleyball, basketball, hockey and futsal, among other sports. Various activities take place at the institution, both in the field of education and other social, cultural and recreational ones.
