Bolívar (BOL)

The Club Bolívar is a Bolivian football club from the city of La Paz. It was founded on 12 April 1925, and has been identified since its beginnings with the colour sky blue. It currently plays in the Primera División of Bolivia.

It formally began its football activity in 1927, the season in which it entered the Segunda División of the Asociación de Fútbol de La Paz. The club's activities during 1925 and 1926 were solely social and cultural.

The club made its professional debut in the 1950 La Paz championship. In 1954 it began its participation in national championships, in which it won 30 titles up to 2023. It also took part in other national tournaments such as the Copa Liga, the Torneo de Play Off, the Torneo de Invierno and the Copa DivPro.

In 1967 it gained access to international competitions for the first time. Since then, it has accumulated 38 appearances in the Copa Libertadores, 12 in the Copa Sudamericana and 1 in the Copa Conmebol. Its best performances came in 1986 and 2014, when it reached the semi-finals of the Copa Libertadores de América, and in 2004, when it was a finalist in the Copa Sudamericana. It also reached the semi-finals of that competition in the 2002 edition.

Throughout its history it has ventured into various sports. Despite this, for decades its dedication has been exclusively to football.

Its stadium is the Libertador Simón Bolívar, located in the Tembladerani area of the city of La Paz. This stadium is used only for training sessions and friendly matches, since for official matches the club plays at home at the Estadio Hernando Siles, a venue with a capacity of 45,143 people.

Since September 2008, following a bankruptcy process, it has been administered by the limited liability company Baisa S.R.L. under a concession system. The parallel institution has Marcelo Claure as its president, who is the majority partner.

Its classic rival is The Strongest of La Paz, against whom it plays the La Paz clásico.
