Atlético Mineiro

The Clube Atlético Mineiro, popularly known as Atlético Mineiro and whose acronym is CAM, is a sports club from Belo Horizonte, capital of the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Founded on 25 March 1908 by a group of students, its traditional colours are black and white. Its symbol and most popular nickname is the Rooster (Galo), the official mascot since the late 1930s. According to BDO RCS Auditores Independentes, Atlético's brand is the ninth most valuable among Brazilian clubs and the second in Minas Gerais, exceeding 357 million reais. Atlético Mineiro has its own stadium, the Arena MRV, with a capacity of 47,465 spectators, making it one of the most modern stadiums in Brazil.

Although the club has a history in other sports, its recognition and main sporting achievements have come in football. Atlético has been crowned champion of the Campeonato Mineiro on 49 occasions and of the Brasileirão three times (1937, 1971 and 2021). It has also won four official national cups: the Copa de Campeones (CBD) in 1978, the Copa do Brasil in 2014 and 2021, and the 2022 Supercopa do Brasil. Internationally, it has four official titles: one Copa Libertadores de América, one Recopa Sudamericana and two Copas Conmebol (an official tournament that preceded the current Copa Sudamericana).

Its greatest football rival is Cruzeiro, against whom it plays the Clásico Mineiro, one of the biggest football rivalries in Brazil. It also has a strong rivalry with América Mineiro, whom it faces in the Clássico Mineiro or Clássico das Multidões (Clásico of the Multitudes).

In addition to countless successes in football, among the main sports throughout Atlético's history, volleyball stands out, in which the club is still today the second-biggest state champion (just below Minas Tênis Clube). The club's athletics section had three achievements in the São Silvestre International Race, won by João da Mata (1983) and Robert Cheruiyot (2007) among the men, and Alice Timbilili (2007) among the women. In futsal, Atlético Pax Minas, through players such as Manoel Tobias and Falcão, dominated Brazil and the world, winning titles such as the Copa do Brasil in 1985, the Brazilian League in 1997 and 1999, and the Intercontinental Cup in 1998.
