Club Olimpo, also known as Olimpo de Bahía Blanca or simply Olimpo, is an Argentine sports club located in Bahía Blanca, Province of Buenos Aires (in the centre-east of Argentina), founded on 15 October 1910. Its main activities are football, in which it currently competes in the Torneo Federal A and plays its home matches at the Estadio Roberto Natalio Carminatti, and basketball (in which it took part until the 2016/17 season in the Torneo Nacional de Ascenso, before withdrawing due to financial problems). Because of its history, the tournaments it has won, its infrastructure, its large number of disciplines, the importance of the city it represents and its supporters, it is considered one of the most important and best-known institutions in the south of Argentina.
For almost all of its history, the club has stood out in basketball, winning the Campeonato Argentino de Clubes twice (1974 and 1978), which was the top category of Argentine basketball until 1984, and finishing runner-up in the Liga Nacional in 1986. Olimpo stands out in the city as the only club in Bahía Blanca to have won a national title in this discipline. It also has 19 titles in the Primera División of the Asociación Bahiense de Básquetbol, making it the team with the most championships in this historic competition. Since 3 July 1971, it has played its home matches at the Estadio Norberto Tomas, which has a capacity of 3,000 spectators.
Nevertheless, football has always been the club's main activity. Olimpo is the all-time record winner of the Liga del Sur with 28 championships, the oldest and most important regional tournament in Argentina. It was also crowned champion of the Primera B Nacional three times (2001/02, 2006/07 and 2009/10), thus becoming the club with the most titles in the competition, together with Banfield. In 1984, after winning the Torneo Regional, it achieved its first promotion to the former Primera División, then called the Torneo Nacional, where it was eliminated in the round of 16 on penalties by Newell's. In 2001 it achieved its first promotion to the current format of the Primera División, and since then it has played 15 seasons in the top category of Argentine football, establishing itself as one of the leading clubs of southern Buenos Aires Province in the top flight. Its best performance in this tournament came in 2011, when it finished fourth in the Torneo Clausura, having also stayed at the top of the table for several matchdays in that tournament. It also played in the 1986 Liguilla Pre-Libertadores, where it was eliminated in the second phase in extra time by Boca Juniors, and in the 2015 Liguilla Pre-Sudamericana, where it was eliminated in the second round by Estudiantes. In the 2013-14 season, after a strong campaign of 50 points, it qualified for the 2014 Copa Sudamericana, but an error by the AFA deprived it of playing in that international tournament for the first time in its history, after Boca Juniors, absurdly, took the place that belonged to Olimpo, despite having defeated Vélez in a tiebreaker in Mar del Plata and qualified for the 2015 Copa Libertadores, when it should have given up its place in the aforementioned Copa Sudamericana. Olimpo also stood out for having thrashed the "big five" of Argentine football: 3-0 against Independiente in 2003, 3-0 against San Lorenzo in 2005, 3-0 against Racing in 2006, 4-0 against River Plate in 2007 and 3-0 against Boca Juniors in 2013. Taking into account the points obtained between 2000 and 2019, Olimpo is part of the table of the first two decades of the 21st century of the Argentine Primera División, ranking 20th with 472 points, after playing 21 of the 36 tournaments held in that period.
In addition to these two major sports, Club Olimpo offers other disciplines: figure skating (its precision team "Roller Dreams" became world champion in 2014), volleyball (the undisputed leader of this sport in Bahía Blanca), swimming, artistic gymnastics, futsal, aikido, judo, chess, iaido and karate.
Its traditional rival is Villa Mitre, another important club in Bahía Blanca, which has spent several years in the Primera B Nacional and which currently also plays in the Torneo Federal A.
