Huracán

Club Atlético Huracán is a social and sports institution in the Parque Patricios neighbourhood of the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina, whose main activity is men's football, in which its first team takes part in the Primera División tournament. Other disciplines are also practised, such as women's football (in which it also plays in the respective Primera División competition), volleyball, roller hockey (see Huracán hockey), skating, taekwondo, judo, field hockey, swimming, artistic gymnastics, basketball, handball, futsal, boxing, tango, yin tao and theatre, among others.

Originally founded on 25 May 1903, in the Pompeya neighbourhood, it was reorganised from 1 November 1908. Its nickname is "El Globo" (the balloon), or its diminutive, "El Globito", and that of its supporters, "Quemeros". The colour of its shirt is white, with red badge and trim.

Huracán was crowned champion of the Primera División five times: 1921, 1922, 1925, 1928 and 1973, the first four during the amateur era and the last in the professional era. It also won eight official national cups of the AFA (3 during the amateur era and 5 in the professional era).

It owns the Estadio Tomás Adolfo Ducó, nicknamed "El Palacio", where it plays its home matches, located at Avenida Amancio Alcorta 2570. Its headquarters, which it also owns, are located at Avenida Caseros 3159, and it also has a sports ground known as "La Quemita", situated at Avenida Mariano Acosta 1981, on land granted by the Government of the City of Buenos Aires.

Its historic rival is San Lorenzo de Almagro, and the two clubs play one of the most characteristic derbies in the country, fuelled by the geographical proximity of the institutions, which make them representative of the neighbourhoods of the southern part of the city, linked to the essence of the porteño identity. The matches it plays against River Plate, Racing Club, Boca Juniors and Independiente are also classics, especially the encounters with Boca Juniors, a former rival of the Asociación Argentina de Football during the amateur era, and Racing Club.

The club claims to be one of the big ones of Argentine football, and was formally considered as such when it obtained, by statute, three proportional votes on the Board of Directors and in the assemblies of the Asociación del Fútbol Argentino, in 1942. It is also accepted as such by part of the press and of the fans.

Furthermore, it is one of the 11 institutions that make up Argentina's gallery of "FIFA classic clubs".
