The Strongest

The Club The Strongest is a sports institution based in the city of La Paz, Bolivia, whose main activity is professional football. It was founded on 8 April 1908 by twelve young students, led by José Villamil. It currently competes in the Primera División of Bolivia.

Its stadium is the Rafael Mendoza Castellón, with a capacity of 14,000 spectators, but the club plays its home matches at the Estadio Hernando Siles, which has a capacity of 41,143 spectators.

It was one of the founders of the Asociación de Fútbol de La Paz, the oldest sports body in Bolivia, and also took part in the creation of the Federación Boliviana de Fútbol. Together with Oriente Petrolero, it is one of the two Bolivian teams that has never been relegated, either in the top division or in its local association.

Nationally, it is one of the most decorated teams in Bolivian football, with 16 top-division titles and 18 runner-up finishes since the start of professionalism in 1950, among which it has one three-peat and one back-to-back title. This places it 2nd in the all-time table of Bolivian professional football.

In the Copa Libertadores de América, its best performances came in the 1990, 1994, 2014 and 2017 editions, when it reached the round of 16.

Internationally, it has 35 appearances in official tournaments organised by the South American Football Confederation. It made its Copa Libertadores debut in 1965 and has since taken part in the tournament on twenty-eight occasions. It also has five appearances in the Copa Sudamericana, two in the Copa Conmebol and two in the Copa Merconorte.

Its classic rival is Bolívar, also from the city of La Paz, against whom it plays the Bolivian clásico.
