Real Zaragoza

Real Zaragoza, S.A.D. is a Spanish football club from the city of Zaragoza, the capital of Aragon. It was founded in 1932, following the agreement to form a single club that would take up the torch from Iberia Sport Club and Zaragoza Club Deportivo, the two most important teams in the city up to that point. It was born under the name Zaragoza Foot-ball Club and with the colours of the Aragonese Football Federation, blue and white, in its main kit as signs of identity. The origin of that idea, of a single club and reference point in the city, goes back to 1903, with the creation of Zaragoza Foot-Ball Club, the first football club founded in Zaragoza and Aragon.

It is the eleventh team in the all-time table of the Primera División of Spain. It has competed for 58 seasons in the top category of Spanish football. It also occupies seventh place among Spanish clubs in the table of official titles, with six Copa championships, one Supercopa de España, one Fairs Cup and one European Cup Winners' Cup. For these last titles it is one of only seven Spanish clubs to have been champions of European competitions. Since 1992 its legal form has been that of a sociedad anónima deportiva (sports limited company).

Until the 2024-25 season, it played its home matches at the La Romareda stadium, with a capacity of 33,608 spectators. That stadium was demolished for the construction of the Nueva Romareda and the team, until then, plays in a modular stadium (Ibercaja Estadio) with a capacity of 20,071 spectators until the completion of the works on the new stadium, scheduled for 31 August 2027.

On 10 September 2009, the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) published the ranking of the best European clubs of the 20th century, in which Real Zaragoza occupies position number 35 owing to the European championships won in the 20th century, the 1964 Fairs Cup and the 1995 European Cup Winners' Cup.

In June 2014, according to a survey carried out by the Centro de Investigaciones Sociológicas (CIS), it was the eighth team that aroused the most sympathy in Spain (1.3%). In that same year, it was not among the 200 most important clubs of the moment according to the IFFHS world club ranking, published in July.

The Aragonese team was sold in April 2022 to Jorge Mas Santos, who is also the president of Inter Miami.

In the 2026-27 season it will play in the Primera Federación, a category belonging to non-professional football.
