Club Deportivo Tenerife is a football club from the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Canary Islands), Spain. The club's distinctive colours are white and blue, representing the Flag of Tenerife. From the 2026-27 season it will compete in the Segunda División of Spain, after only one season in the Primera Federación. Currently, the official founding date is considered to be 8 August 1922; however, some supporters and historians argue that the correct date is 21 November 1912. Its home ground has been, since 1925, the Estadio Heliodoro Rodríguez López, having previously played at the Campo de Miraflores.
From 1912, so as to include the records of Tenerife Sporting Club (since it kept its trophies), until 1953 it competed in regional categories, where it won four titles of the Campeonato Regional de Canarias, ten of the Liga Regional de Tenerife, three of the Liga Interregional and two of the Copa Heliodoro Rodríguez López. It reached the national level through a promotion play-off, and since then it has spent thirteen seasons in Primera División, forty-six in Segunda, eight in Segunda B and three in Tercera. It has thus achieved promotion to the top flight four times (1960-61, 1988-89, 2000-01 and 2008-09) and to the second tier (1970-71, 1986-87, 2012-13 and 1982-83). In the meantime, from 1968 to 1971 it was called "Tenerife Atlético Club" and the colour of its kit changed, but this was reversed, so that, as in its early days, its traditional home kit consists of a white shirt and blue shorts, with the colours inverted in the away kit. Likewise, the crest has undergone modifications over time, but has always featured the flag of Tenerife and the city's coat of arms.
It has taken part in sixty-six editions of the Campeonato de España de Copa, the semi-finals of the 1993-94 campaign being the furthest it has reached. In international competitions, it has played in the UEFA Cup twice, reaching the round of 16 in the 1993-94 season and the semi-finals in 1996-97, after qualifying as fifth-placed team in Primera División in the preceding years. Historically it is the thirtieth best team in Spain (510 points), while according to the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) it was the 137th best in Europe in the 20th century. It maintains a rivalry with Unión Deportiva Las Palmas, a team from the island of Gran Canaria, against which it plays the Canarian derby, and it also has a network of affiliated teams, among them Tenerife "B".
