Villarreal

Villarreal Club de Fútbol, S. A. D. is a Spanish football club from the city of Villarreal (Castellón), in the Valencian Community. Its first team competes in LaLiga EA Sports. In the all-time table of Spanish football it ranks 15th, having played 25 editions of the top flight of football in Spain and 18 seasons in Europe. It plays its matches at the Estadio de la Cerámica, which has a capacity of 22,000 spectators.

Since the 1940s, the club's kit has been characterised by the yellow colour of its shirt, and the team is popularly known by the nicknames "Submarino Amarillo" (Yellow Submarine) or "Groguets". In 2002, the facilities of the Ciudad Deportiva José Manuel Llaneza were opened, where the first team and the youth categories train.

At national level its best result has been the league runners-up finish in the 2007-08 season. Internationally it has won 3 titles: the UEFA Intertoto Cup twice (2003 and 2004), and the UEFA Europa League in 2021, after beating Manchester United in the final on penalties. It is the team from the smallest town to win a European title, taking this record from RKV Malinas of Belgium in 1987-88. In the highest continental competition it reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League twice (2005-06 and 2021-22), being proclaimed in the first of these the best debutant team in the competition.

In December 2004, the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) recognised Villarreal C. F. as the best team of the month worldwide.
