Alavés

Deportivo Alavés, S. A. D., better known as Alavés, is a football club based in the city of Vitoria, Spain. Founded on 23 January 1921 as Sport Friend's Club, it has played in the Primera División de España since the 2023-24 season. Since 7 February 2020 it has ranked 26th in its all-time table.

The club's honours include four Segunda División titles, another four in Segunda B, six in Tercera and one Copa RFEF. One of its greatest sporting achievements took place in 2001, when, in its debut in European competition, it was runner-up in the UEFA Cup (now the Europa League) after losing to Liverpool Football Club to a golden goal in extra time for a final score of 5-4. Thanks to that performance it is among the twenty-eight Spanish teams to have played in an international competition. As for titles, its best distinctions have been five league championships in lower national divisions.

Identified by its blue and white colours, for which it receives the nickname "albiazul", its legal form is that of a sociedad anónima deportiva (S. A. D.) under the Decree of the Sports Law 10/1990, intended to promote grassroots sports associations and to establish a model of legal and economic responsibility for professional entities. Ownership is divided among shareholding members; the majority owner is the basketball club Saski Baskonia, represented by its main shareholder Josean Querejeta, while the club president is Alfonso Fernández de Trocóniz. It plays its home matches at the Estadio de Mendizorroza, which has a capacity of 19,940 spectators, and also has sports facilities at Ibaia dedicated to youth development.

Among these, Deportivo Alavés "B", its reserve team, which plays in group II of the Segunda Federación, stands out. It previously had a third team, Deportivo Alavés "C", which disappeared in 2005 and was recreated in 2022. It currently stands out for its international expansion through collaboration agreements with teams from Croatia, Finland, France and Japan.
