RB Salzburg

Fútbol Club Red Bull Salzburgo (in German: Fußball Club Red Bull Salzburg), or Salzburg for short, is a football club from the city of Salzburg, Austria. It plays in the Austrian Bundesliga, the country's top division. It was founded on 13 September 1933 as Sportverein Austria Salzburg, through the merger of two other local teams.

It was promoted to the top national division in 1953 and played a relevant role until the 1990s when, under the name Casino Salzburg, it achieved its best results with three league championships, three supercups and a runner-up finish in the 1993-94 UEFA Cup. On 6 April 2005 the energy drink company Red Bull GmbH bought Austria Salzburg, the first club bought by the business group. It subsequently changed its name and crest, and came to be called Red Bull Salzburg, and gave the team a substantial budget to invest in signings. In international tournaments it takes part as FC Salzburg owing to UEFA's limitations on sponsors.

When the team qualified as Austrian champion for the 2017-18 UEFA Champions League, another Red Bull-owned club, RasenBallsport Leipzig of Germany, had also qualified for this continental tournament, putting the participation of both at risk under UEFA statutes, which prohibit the simultaneous participation of two teams of the same owner. In the end, UEFA decided to accept both teams after confirming that "there is no simultaneous influence" between the two, citing changes in their structures that left Red Bull as the owner of the German team and only a sponsor of the Austrian team, although in practice it makes the sporting and administrative decisions of both teams.

In protest at the decisions of Red Bull GmbH, a group of Salzburg fans founded a new club with the traditional colors and history, S. V. Austria Salzburg.
