Oriente Petrolero

El Club Deportivo y Cultural Oriente Petrolero is a football club from the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, which competes in the Primera División of Bolivia. It was founded in Camiri on 5 November 1955, by a group of workers of Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB).

Nationally it has 5 titles in the Primera División of Bolivia, in addition to having won the Santa Cruz championship of the Asociación Cruceña de Fútbol (ACF) 11 times.

Oriente Petrolero has taken part in the Primera División of Bolivia since 1960, and since its first participation the club has always played in the top category of its country, being, together with The Strongest and Universitario de Vinto, one of the three Bolivian teams that have never been relegated, either in their departmental association or in the professional league.

In the Copa Libertadores its best performance came when it reached the quarterfinals in the 1988 edition, becoming the first Bolivian team to advance to a third stage of the Copa Libertadores.

Internationally, it is the third Bolivian side that has played the most continental cups. It has 34 international appearances in official tournaments organized by the Confederación Sudamericana de Fútbol. It debuted in the Copa Libertadores in 1972 and has since taken part in the tournament twenty-one times. It also has ten appearances in the Copa Sudamericana, two in the Copa Conmebol and one in the Copa Merconorte.

In 1977 it was one of the sixteen founding clubs of the Liga del Fútbol Profesional Boliviano.

Its first team plays its matches at the Estadio Ramón Aguilera Costas, inaugurated in 1941 and renamed in 1980 in honor of the former footballer Ramón Aguilera Costas. The venue has a capacity of 38,500 spectators, making it the second largest stadium in Bolivia.

It maintains a historic rivalry with Blooming, against whom it plays the so-called “Super clásico cruceño”, which is regarded as one of the best derbies in the country and one of the best in the world for its intensity. This derby is considered by the English magazine FourFourTwo to be one of the best in the world, ranking 49th in its list of the 50 best derbies in the world.
