Club de Fútbol América S. A. de C. V. is a professional football team in the Primera División of Mexico. It was founded on 12 October 1916 in Mexico City by a group of students led by the player Rafael Garza Gutiérrez and the teacher and coach Eugenio Cenoz. It plays its home matches at the Estadio Azteca, and the traditional colours of the americanista kit are yellow and blue.

It is the institution with the most championships in all kinds of official competitions among Mexican football clubs, totalling 36 (26 national and 10 international).

It holds first place in Primera División league championships with 14 titles won. Likewise, it ranks first in the list of clubs with the most national titles in Mexico with a total of twenty-six (fourteen League, six Copa México —record winner— and six Campeón de Campeones). Together with Club Deportivo Guadalajara, it is one of the two teams that have taken part in every League season since 1943–44.

With ten championships, it distinguishes itself as the Concacaf team, and consequently the Mexican club, that has accumulated the highest total number of international titles: seven in the Concacaf Champions League (in which it stands out as the record winner), two Copa Interamericana and one Concacaf Giants Cup. In turn, it ranks 9th in the world for most international titles won. Its record of 30 appearances in international tournaments is the highest figure for any Mexican team.

It is the most popular team in Mexico, according to recent surveys carried out by Grupo Reforma, El Universal and Consulta Mitofsky, from 2013 to 2017, and again from 2019 to 2021. Likewise, it is the most popular among Mexican teams in the United States. América also has the particularity of being the team that generates the most animosity among the country's fans. In the same way, the club carries its levels of popularity over into the realm of social media, standing as the leader among Mexican teams in followers and interactions on the main platforms.

It was the first team that was neither European nor South American to be named Club of the Month in the world in August 2001, and one of the two clubs to be so twice, together with Al-Ahly of Egypt, in August 2001 and May 2002.

With the aforementioned Egyptian club, it shares the singularity of being the only clubs in the world that simultaneously top the rolls of honour of their respective league, cup and continental club championship competitions. Likewise, it ranks 80th in the IFFHS all-time world club ranking, being the best-placed Mexican team on the list.

It is the side that has accumulated the most points, games won and goals scored, both in the regular season and in the final phase for the title, in the history of the Primera División.

Its importance in Mexican football is also evident in organisational matters, as it was one of the seven clubs that gave rise to the current Federación Mexicana de Fútbol on 22 August 1922 and, two months later, to the current league tournament.
