Queens Park Rangers

Queens Park Rangers Football Club, also known as QPR, is an English football club from Shepherd's Bush, in the London borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. It was founded on 21 May 1882 and plays in the Football League Championship.

The club was founded under the name Christchurch Rangers and adopted its current name after merging with St Judes Institute four years later, near the areas of Queen's Park and Kensal. In the late 19th century it won several regional titles and, in 1920, joined the Football League. In 1967 it won the League Cup, its only major trophy to date. In the 1975–76 season it came very close to winning the English league, but finished second, just one point behind the champion, Liverpool. In 1982 it reached the FA Cup final, although it lost to Tottenham Hotspur after a replay.

QPR was one of the founding clubs of the Premier League in 1992. Since then it has alternated promotions and relegations between the first and second divisions. Its most recent promotion to the Premier League was in 2014, but it was relegated the following season. Since then it has remained in the Championship.

The team has played its home matches at Loftus Road since 1917, apart from two brief spells at White City Stadium. Its most notable rivalry is the West London derby against Chelsea.

In August 2007 it was bought by the Formula One magnate Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatore, who sold 20% to the family of the steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal in December of that year. Alejandro Agag also joined Briatore in the club's ownership.
