Stade Reims

Stade de Reims is a French football club based in Reims. The club was founded in 1911 under the name Société Sportive du Parc Pommery and currently plays in Ligue 2, the second tier of national football in France. It plays its home matches at Stade Auguste Delaune, a renovation of the old complex located inside the city, with a capacity of 21,684 spectators.

Stade Reims is one of the most successful clubs in the history of French football, having won six Ligue 1 titles, two Coupe de France trophies and five Supercoupes de France. The club also achieved great results at European level, finishing as runners-up in 1956 and 1959 in the editions of the European Cup, and winning the Latin Cup in 1953, which remains its only official international title to date; it would additionally win the Alpine Cup in 1977. However, since the 1980s, Reims has struggled to repeat those successes. The club had last played in Ligue 1 in the 1978–79 season, then spent a long time playing in Ligue 2 and the Championnat National, until the 2012–13 season, when it was promoted again to the top division of France after 33 years of absence.

Historically, Stade de Reims is considered a legendary club in French football circles, not only for its national and European honors, but also for its contribution to the France national team during the 1940s and 1950s. Reims was, in large part, responsible for the first golden generation of French football, with notable national team members such as Roger Marche, Raymond Kopa, Just Fontaine, Jean Vincent, Robert Jonquet, Armand Penverne, Dominique Colonna and Roger Piantoni, who helped France reach the semifinals of the 1958 FIFA World Cup.
