RC Strasbourg Alsace

Racing Club de Estrasburgo Alsacia —officially in French Racing Club de Strasbourg Alsace—, better known as Racing de Estrasburgo, is a French football club from the city of Strasbourg in Alsace. It was founded in 1906 under the name Erster Fußball Club Neudorf, in honor of the neighborhood where it was established in Strasbourg. It plays in Ligue 1, the top tier of French football.

Racing is one of the six clubs that have won the three main French trophies. It won Ligue 1 in the 1978–79 season. Likewise, its honors include three Coupes de France (1951, 1966 and 2001) and three Coupes de la Ligue (1997, 2005 and 2019). The club is also among the six teams that have played more than 2,000 matches in France's top division (spanning 56 seasons) and has taken part in 52 European matches since 1961. It won the now-defunct UEFA Intertoto Cup in the 1995 season. Despite these achievements, Racing has never managed to establish itself as one of France's leading clubs, experiencing relegation several times since the early 1950s.

The fate of the club has always been tied to the history of the region of Alsace. Like the region, Racing has changed nationality three times and has a turbulent history. Founded in what was then part of the German Empire, the club insisted from the beginning on its Alsatian and working-class roots, in opposition to the first clubs based in Strasbourg, which came from the German-born bourgeoisie. When Alsace was returned to France in 1919, the club changed its name from "FC Neudorf" to "Racing Club de Estrasburgo", imitating the name of the club Racing Club de France Football (founded by Pierre de Coubertin himself), a clear gesture of Francophilia. The Racing players lived through the Second World War like most Alsatians: evacuated in 1939, annexed in 1940 and fighting to avoid Nazification and incorporation into the Wehrmacht between 1942 and 1944. When Alsace returned definitively to France, Racing's identity shifted towards Jacobinism, with exciting cup victories in 1951 and 1966 amid Franco-Alsatian controversies. More recently, the club has been eager to promote its European vocation alongside its strong local ties.

It is also one of the 10 teams that have never lost to F.C. Barcelona.
