Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest Football Club is a football club from the city of Nottingham in the East Midlands of England. It was founded on 1 January 1865. Since the 2022–2023 season it has played in the Premier League, the top tier of English football, after winning the promotion play-off in the Championship after 23 years. It was also back-to-back European Cup champion —now the UEFA Champions League— in 1979 and 1980. It plays its home matches at the City Ground, with a capacity of 30,500 spectators.

It was one of the founder members of the Football Alliance in 1889 and its first major success came in 1898 when it won the FA Cup. It spent much of the twentieth century in the Second Division and its second major trophy came in 1959 when it won another FA Cup. The club's period of greatest success came under Brian Clough, who arrived at the club in 1975. Under his management Nottingham Forest was promoted to the First Division, became champion of England in 1978, won two consecutive European Cups and the 1979 European Super Cup, making it the only European club to have won more European Cups than national league titles, and its honours list includes four League Cups and one Community Shield.

They took part in 1992 in the first season of the Premier League. Since then it has suffered a series of relegations and in 2005 dropped as far as League One, the Third Division. After three seasons in the third tier of English football it won promotion to the Championship, where it spent fourteen seasons before being promoted to the Premier League.

After Brian Clough's departure, Nottingham Forest went through an institutional crisis that pursued it until 2022, after it was promoted to the Premier League.

Nottingham Forest's historic rival is Derby County, whom it faces in the East Midlands derby, in which they play for the Brian Clough Trophy. Other rivals of Forest are Notts County, Leicester City and Sheffield United. During the 1970s and 80s there was a great rivalry between the legendary Liverpool and Nottingham Forest.
