Burnley FC

Burnley Football Club is a football club based in the English town of Burnley, in the county of Lancashire. It currently plays in the EFL Championship, the second tier of English football, having been relegated in 2026. Founded on 18 May 1882, it was one of the first teams to turn professional, in 1883, and lobbied the Football Association to allow the practice. The club entered the FA Cup for the first time in 1885–86 and was one of the twelve founder members of the Football League in 1888–89.

Burnley have won two English league championships, in 1920–21 and 1959–60, one FA Cup, in 1913–14, and two Charity Shields, in 1960 and 1973. They have also finished runners-up in the First Division twice, in 1919–20 and 1961–62, and in the FA Cup twice, in 1946–47 and 1961–62. The team also reached the quarter-finals of the 1960–61 European Cup. Burnley are one of five clubs to have won the titles of all four professional divisions of English football, along with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Preston North End, Sheffield United and Portsmouth.

The team has played its home matches at Turf Moor since February 1883, after moving from its original ground at Calder Vale. The club's colours, claret and sky blue, were adopted before the start of the 1910–11 season in tribute to the then league champions, Aston Villa, and the team is nicknamed the Clarets, after claret, one of the dominant colours of the home kit. The club's crest is based on the coat of arms of Burnley, and the club has a long rivalry with Blackburn Rovers, with whom it contests the East Lancashire derby
