Borussia Mönchengladbach

Borussia Mönchengladbach (in German: Borussia Verein für Leibesübungen 1900 e.V. Mönchengladbach), usually known by its abbreviations Mönchengladbach or Gladbach, is a football club located in the city of Mönchengladbach, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It plays in the Bundesliga, the German top division.

Borussia Mönchengladbach was founded in 1900, with a name derived from a Latinized form of "Prussia": "Borussia", which was a popular name for German clubs from the former Kingdom of Prussia. The team joined the Bundesliga in 1965 and experienced most of its success in the 1970s, when, under the direction of Hennes Weisweiler and later Udo Lattek, a young squad with a fast and aggressive style of play was built, which gave rise to the club's nickname: "Die Fohlen" (The Foals). During this period, Mönchengladbach won the Bundesliga five times, the UEFA Cup twice and reached a European Cup final in 1977.

Since 2004, Borussia Mönchengladbach has played at the Borussia-Park, having played at the Bökelbergstadion since 1919. By number of members, it is the sixth largest club in Germany, with more than 94,000. In addition, the club ranks fifth in the all-time Bundesliga table. Mönchengladbach's main rival is 1. FC Köln, against whom it contests the "Rhineland Derby". Its secondary rivals are Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and Fortuna Düsseldorf.
