Xanthi FC

Xanthi Athlitikos Omilos (in Greek: Ξάνθη Αθλητικός Όμιλος) is a Greek football club from the city of Xanthi, in the region of Western Thrace. It plays its home matches at the Skoda Xanthi Arena.

It was founded in 1967 as A.C. Xanthi and plays in the Division A of Xanthi. It is considered one of the best clubs in Greece because of the work it does with young Greek players. The team took part in the UEFA Cup in the 2001-02, 2005-06, 2006-07 and 2013-14 seasons. In the 2004-05 campaign, the club finished in fourth position in the Alpha Ethniki (First Division, now the Super League of Greece), which is the best performance in its history in the league championship.

Xanthi's first appearance in the top flight took place in 1989, and the club managed to remain uninterruptedly among the elite of Greek football until its relegation in 2020.

On 19 September 2022, Xanthi FC announced its withdrawal from the Second Super League championship, ending its presence in the professional categories after being unable to cope with the serious financial and administrative problems it was going through. Since then, the professional entity has been in a process of dissolution, with only the amateur club surviving under the name AOX.

From the 2023-24 season, AOX restarted its journey from the amateur leagues of the Xanthi Football Clubs Association (FCA), taking part in the Second Division of the region. The team won all 24 of its matches and achieved promotion to the higher category. In the First Division of the Xanthi FCA, in which it competed the following season (2024-25), it again won the title unbeaten and took part in the special promotion championship, through which it secured its return to the national divisions after three full years of absence. From the 2025-26 season, Xanthi will compete in the Third Division of Greece.
