Atlas Guadalajara

Atlas Fútbol Club is a football team in the Primera División of Mexico, originally from the city of Guadalajara, Jalisco. Founded on 15 August 1916, the team takes its name in honour of the Titan of Greek mythology Atlas, since, as one of the founders, Juan José "Lico" Cortina, commented, «we felt we were the support of the world».

The colours that identify it are black and red, after San Lorenzo (Saint Lawrence) the martyr, patron saint of Ampleforth College, where some of its founders studied. Black symbolises the martyr and red the blood he shed. Based on these colours, the sports shirt and the crest were designed; the famous A of the Atlas crest was designed by the Austrian-born painter and draughtsman Carlos Stahl, who suggested as the emblem a white A on a red-and-black background.

It plays the Clásico Tapatío against Guadalajara, with whom it has maintained a historic rivalry since the beginnings of football in that city.

It has in its trophy cabinet 12 national titles (three League, four Copa México and five Campeón de Campeones), as well as five regional titles from the defunct Liga de Occidente.
