Universidad Católica (CHI)

The football branch of Club Deportivo Universidad Católica is the most important in the institution. Based in the city of Santiago, it was founded on 21 April 1937 by a group of athletes from the Pontificia Universidad Católica who decided to break away from the club Universitario de Deportes. It plays in the Primera División of Chile.

It has won 16 Primera División titles, 4 Copa Chile, 4 Supercopa de Chile, 1 Copa de la República and 2 Segunda División tournaments. Internationally, it won the Copa Interamericana in 1994. It has been one of the four Chilean teams to have played a final of the Copa Libertadores de América, and the last to do so, in 1993.

The colours that identify the club are blue and white. Its crest is triangular in shape, with a white background framing a blue cross, which symbolises the combat uniform based on the medieval warriors of the Crusades, with the letters CDUC (Club Deportivo Universidad Católica) in red. The motto of Universidad Católica is «Por la Patria, Dios y la Universidad» ("For the Fatherland, God and the University"), a phrase that also appears in the club's anthem. It is one of FIFA's classic clubs.

Its traditional rival is Universidad de Chile, against whom it plays the «Clásico Universitario», a match described by some sectors as "the most traditional match in Chilean football". It plays its home matches at the Estadio San Carlos de Apoquindo, located in the neighbourhood of the same name in the commune of Las Condes. It has a capacity of 20,000 spectators and was inaugurated on 4 September 1988.

It has a women's football branch, which has competed in the Primera División since 2009. In men's youth football, it has won world championships in its category, such as the Torneo Internacional de Croix Sub-19 in 1980 and the Manchester United Premier Cup in 2012.
