Albacete Balompié

Albacete Balompié S. A. D. is a Spanish football club based in the city of Albacete, in the autonomous community of Castilla-La Mancha. It was founded on 1 June 1939 through the merger of Club Deportivo Nacional and Albacete Fútbol Club under the name Sociedad Deportiva Albacete Fútbol Asociación, and changed its name to Albacete Balompié in 1941. It currently plays in the Segunda División of Spain, a category of which it has been champion once.

Albacete Balompié is a historic name in Spanish football. It is the only team from Castilla-La Mancha that has played in the Primera División. It has played 7 seasons in the Primera, spread over two eras, as well as 27 in the Segunda, 1 in the Primera Federación, 11 in the Segunda B and 30 in the Tercera, having won one Segunda División title (1990–91), three Segunda División B titles (1989–90, 2013–14 and 2016–17) and eight Tercera División titles.

The colour that identifies the club is white, which has appeared on its home kit since its foundation. Since 1960 it has played its home matches at the Estadio Carlos Belmonte, which is municipally owned and has a capacity of 17,524 spectators.

In its Primera División debut, the so-called "queso mecánico" ("mechanical cheese") finished in seventh place in the table, one point short of qualifying for the UEFA Cup. In the 1994–1995 season it came within one step of the Copa del Rey final after losing to Valencia CF in the semi-finals, in a second leg that was decided by the narrowest of margins after a draw in the first leg.

The Qatari group Skyline International is the majority shareholder of Albacete Balompié, chosen to develop an ambitious football project, and its current chairman is the Venezuelan-Lebanese businessman Georges Kabchi.

Its reserve team, Atlético Albacete, currently plays in the Tercera Federación (group XVIII). It has a women's section, Fundación Albacete, which has played for five seasons in the Primera División.
