Sheffield Wednesday Football Club is a football club based in Sheffield (England), United Kingdom. Until 1929 its name was The Wednesday Football Club. It currently plays in the EFL League One, the third division of English football.

Founded in 1867 as a section of a cricket team, it is the fourth-oldest professional football club in England, behind Notts County, Stoke City and Nottingham Forest. It was one of the founders and first champion of the Football Alliance in 1889, which was incorporated into the English Football League three years later, and in the 1992-93 season it took part in the first edition of the Premier League.

Throughout its history the team has won four league titles, three FA Cups, one League Cup and two Community Shields. In 1991 it became the first (and to date the only) team in England to have won an official competition while in a lower division: the League Cup against Manchester United. Wednesday maintains an intense rivalry with the city's other representative club, Sheffield United.
