UE Lleida

La Unió Esportiva Lleida was a Spanish football club located in Lleida, Catalonia. It played in the Spanish football league system and, during the time it existed, it was the most representative team of the province of Lleida.

The team was founded in 1939, as Lérida Balompié, from the union of several clubs in the city. However, it did not acquire its traditional structure until March 1947, when it joined another Lleida club, Club Deportivo Leridano, to form Unión Deportiva Lérida. In 1978 it changed its name to Unió Esportiva Lleida. In its whole history, the club played twice in the Spanish Primera División but did not stay up: its debut was in the 1950/51 season, in which they finished bottom, and they returned in 1993/94, when they finished second from bottom.

In recent years, the entity had serious financial problems that led it to file for insolvency proceedings in July 2010. The debt of UE Lleida amounted to 28 million euros and there was no possibility of reducing it, so its disappearance was decreed and its place in Segunda B was sold. Its successor was Club Lleida Esportiu.
