Real Oviedo, S. A. D. is a Spanish football club. It is based in Oviedo, capital of the autonomous community of the Principality of Asturias. It was officially founded as a football club on 26 March 1926 as the result of the merger of the city's two teams, Real Stadium Club Ovetense (founded in 1914) and Real Club Deportivo Oviedo (founded in 1919), under the name Oviedo Foot-ball Club. On 10 May the request for the honorary presidency of the club to fall to the Prince of Asturias, D. Alfonso de Borbón, was accepted, and the sky-blue society came to be called Real Oviedo Foot-ball Club. It plays its home matches at the Estadio Carlos Tartiere —named in honour of its first and most emblematic president— which has a capacity of 30,500 spectators, the seventeenth largest in Spain.

From 2015 to 2025 it took part in the second tier of the Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional, the Segunda División de España, the forty-second time it had played in it. In that division it is one of the most decorated clubs, having won it a total of five times, the same as its main rival in Asturias, Real Sporting de Gijón, with whom it contests the Asturian derby, in which it holds the upper hand in the overall tally of matches. In the 2024–25 season they won the promotion play-offs to the Primera División, returning to the top tier of Spanish football after more than two decades. From the 2026–27 season it will compete again in the Segunda División de España.

Identified by its characteristic blue colour, in the Pantone 286C shade, its players —like all natives of Oviedo— receive the nickname «carbayones». Its legal status has been since 1992 that of a sociedad anónima deportiva (S. A. D.), its majority shareholder and owner being Grupo Pachuca of Mexico. For the 2025/2026 season, the club has 26,400 season-ticket holders.

Governed by the Real Federación Española de Fútbol (RFEF) at national level, and by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) —the highest football body— at international level, it is the fourth oldest Asturian entity, as well as one of the historic clubs that have played most often in the top category of the Primera División, with a total of 38 seasons since its inception in 1929, placing nineteenth in its all-time table. As for its sporting achievements, its greatest heights were three third places in the top division —in the 1934–35, 1935–36 and 1962–63 seasons—, two Copa del Rey semi-finals —in the 1934 and 1946 editions— and one Copa de la Liga de Segunda División —in 1985—, as well as five Segunda División championships, one Segunda B and four Tercera. As for international records, one participation in the UEFA Cup in the 1991–92 season remains to date its only appearance in European competitions.

In 2017 it signed an agreement with Oviedo Moderno Club de Fútbol, under which the women's team became part of the structure of the club, thus forming Real Oviedo Femenino, a historic club of the Spanish top division, which currently competes in the Primera Federación.

The club came close to disappearing in 2003 and 2012 because of its pressing debts, but a shareholder drive and the following financial years allowed the debt to be completely eliminated in 2018, securing the full solvency and viability of the entity, although this could ultimately not be turned into profits, as revenues were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
