Progreso

Club Atlético Progreso is a Uruguayan football club from the La Teja neighborhood, in the city of Montevideo. It was founded in 1917 and currently takes part in the Primera División of Uruguay. It plays its home matches at the Estadio Abraham Paladino.

Its greatest sporting achievement came in the 1989 season, in which Progreso finished first and won the Campeonato Uruguayo Especial, as it was the only championship played in a single round. On that occasion, when the winner still earned 2 points per win, it finished 5 points ahead of the runners-up, who were Nacional and Peñarol. It also won the Torneo Competencia de Primera División in 1985 and several titles in the B and C divisions.

At the international level, Progreso has three participations in the top continental tournament, the Copa Libertadores, in 1987, 1990 and 2020. In one of them, in 1990, it won its group in the initial phase and then fell to Barcelona of Guayaquil, who ended up as runners-up of the tournament.
