Caracas FC

Caracas Fútbol Club, also known simply as Caracas, is a Venezuelan professional football club based in Caracas, Venezuela. It currently plays in the Primera División of Venezuela and plays its home matches at the Estadio Brígido Iriarte.

It was founded on 12 December 1967 on the initiative of Ángel Román, José León Beracasas, the brothers Abad Obregón and Diógenes Álvarez, with the idea of having a football club that would represent the city. However, it was not until 1984 that it took part in a professional tournament, playing in the second division under the name Caracas-Yamaha FC, winning promotion that same year and being renamed Caracas Fútbol Club in 1989 with the merger of Caracas Yamaha FC and Caracas FC Amateur. The colour that identifies the club is red.

The amateur stage runs from 1967 to 1984, the year in which the professional stage began and which continues to the present, when it began its rise towards the top category. Caracas has won 18 official titles: 12 Primera División championships, five Copa Venezuela tournaments and one Copa Bolivariana. In the amateur era (1967–1979), Caracas FC won 14 titles, which makes it the club with the most titles in all of Venezuelan professional football.

The team is currently run by the Organización Deportiva Cocodrilos since 4 October 1989, which also owns a branch in Venezuelan professional basketball, called Cocodrilos de Caracas.

Its fierce rival is Deportivo Táchira, against whom it plays the so-called clásico of Venezuelan football.
