Deportivo Cali is a sports club from the city of Santiago de Cali, Valle del Cauca, Colombia, founded on 23 November 1912 as Cali Football Club by the brothers Nazario, Juan Pablo and Fidel Lalinde. It is currently one of the largest clubs in Colombia and the only team with its own stadium in the country. It is known primarily as a football club, although it competes in other disciplines such as basketball, tennis, swimming and futsal.
In its early days as an amateur team it won the departmental titles in 1927, 1928, 1929, 1930, 1931, 1934, 1935 and 1936. As a professional team, it has won the Colombian first division title ten times: 1965, 1967, 1969, 1970, 1974, 1995-96, 1998, 2005-II, 2015-I and 2021-II. In addition to its ten titles, Deportivo Cali is the club that has finished runner-up in the category the most times, fourteen in total. The team has also won the Copa Colombia title in 2010 and the Superliga de Colombia title in 2014, which makes it the sixth most successful club in the División Mayor del Fútbol Colombiano with 12 official titles. It has also won the national youth titles in 2009, 2012 and 2014, and the national under-17 titles in 2011, 2013 and 2016. Internationally, it was runner-up in the Copa Libertadores de América in 1978 and 1999, and is the third Colombian team with the most appearances in the tournament (21); it was also runner-up in the now-defunct Copa Merconorte in 1998.
Deportivo Cali is the only Colombian team with its own stadium, and the Estadio Deportivo Cali has the largest spectator capacity in Colombia. It is currently ranked 102nd in the IFFHS World Club Ranking, and is the 4th best Colombian club in the ranking, behind Atlético Nacional (8), Independiente Santa Fe (13) and Millonarios (88). The team occupies third place in the all-time table of the first division. In 2014 it was listed by Forbes magazine as the 15th most valuable team in the Americas, the only Colombian team to appear on the list. It again repeated as the only Colombian team on the list in 2016, ranking 36th, and in 2017 ranking 25th. It is the only Colombian team that operates as an association, the club being owned exclusively by its members.
