Club Olimpia is a sports institution based in the city of Asunción, Paraguay. It was founded on 25 July 1902 by a group of young Paraguayans. The name arose from the idea of its main founding member, William Paats, a Dutchman who settled in Paraguay in the late 19th century, who is considered the father of Paraguayan football for having introduced and promoted the practice of that sport in the country. The football team plays its home matches at the Estadio Osvaldo Domínguez Dibb, better known as El Bosque or Para uno.

El Decano ("The Dean") or Rey de Copas ("King of Cups") is the most decorated institution in Paraguayan football, with 46 Primera División titles. It also holds an unbeaten record of six consecutive absolute titles, which makes it the only hexacampeón in Guaraní football. In the international arena it has eight official titles, among which three Copas Libertadores and one Copa Intercontinental stand out.
In 1979 it achieved a feat exclusive to a group of clubs, by winning all the official titles in a single season (calendar year), thus attaining the quadruple crown: the Paraguayan Championship, the Copa Libertadores, the Copa Interamericana and the Copa Intercontinental.
It is the only club to be awarded an international title without having contested it in a deciding match, since it was crowned winner of the two South American tournaments for the year 1990: the Copa Libertadores and the Supercopa Sudamericana, whereupon, having no opponent, it was automatically awarded the Recopa Sudamericana. Such achievements placed it 5th among the best clubs of the Americas in the 20th century.
With the winning of the 2002 Copa Libertadores and the 2003 Recopa Sudamericana, El Franjeado ("The Striped One") is part of the quintet of clubs that, throughout history, have won at least one international title when commemorating 100 years of institutional life. It also stands out as the only club to play at least one Copa Libertadores final in every decade, from its creation in 1960 to the present day. There were seven: 1960, 1979, 1989, 1990, 1991, 2002 and 2013.
It plays the Superclásico of Paraguayan football against Club Cerro Porteño, considered one of the most traditional duels in South America. It also faces Libertad in the Clásico Blanco y Negro and Guaraní in the Clásico Más Añejo. Lastly, it also maintains a rivalry with Club Nacional of Barrio Obrero, which, although considered a "classic" by some media outlets, is taken by both clubs as more of a minor rivalry, although the club against which Nacional plays a neighbourhood derby is Cerro Porteño.
