Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk

FC Dnipro (in Ukrainian: ФК Дніпро́) was a football club from the city of Dnipro, in Ukraine. The club was founded in 1918 as part of the Briansk Metallurgical Plant, from which it received its first name, BRIT.

Dnipro, which owes its name to the Dnieper River, is a popular name in Dnipro sport. Alongside the football club there is also a bandy team and a basketball team of the same name, among others, but FC Dnipro is not a multi-sport club. In the Soviet Union, the club was a member of the Metallurg voluntary sports society (for which reason it was called Metallurg and Stal) and until 1961 was under the sponsorship of the Petrovsky Metallurgical Plant of Dnipropetrovsk. Afterwards, the club was sponsored by the Yuzhmash machine-building plant. After the fall of the Soviet Union, the club was privatised and acquired by Privat Group, which also owns BC Dnipro and Budivelnyk Kyiv.

The club's honours include two Soviet league championships, one Soviet cup, two Soviet league cups and one Soviet super cup. Since Ukraine's independence in 1991, the club has always finished among the top places in the Ukrainian league, but without being able to withstand the dominance of Dynamo Kyiv or Shakhtar Donetsk. Its best performance in Ukrainian football was the league runner-up finish in 2014, and in the cup it was a finalist in 2004.

The following year it had its best international performance, reaching the final of the 2014–15 UEFA Europa League, finishing as runners-up after losing 3–2 to Sevilla F. C.
