Rosenborg Ballklub, also known by the initials RBK, is a football club from the city of Trondheim, in Norway. The club was founded in 1917 and plays its home matches at the Lerkendal Stadion. Rosenborg is the most successful team in Norwegian football, having won 26 league titles and twelve Norwegian Cup titles and played more UEFA competition matches than any other team in the country. It currently plays in the Eliteserien.
The club was founded in 1917 as Odd, but was not allowed to play amateur league matches until 1928, when it adopted its current name. The club moved to Lerkendal in 1957 and its first title was the Cup in 1960, leading to its first participation in a UEFA tournament. It was during the 1960s that Rosenborg first established itself as the leading football team of Trondheim. Since 1967, Rosenborg has qualified for the Tippeligaen, where, with the exception of 1978, it has remained ever since. The team's golden age began with the 1985 league title, and from 1992 to 2004 the team won 13 consecutive titles, ten with the manager Nils Arne Eggen, and twelve consecutive appearances in the group stage of the Champions League, where it reached the quarter-finals in 1996–97.
The run of thirteen consecutive league titles means that only the Latvian Skonto Riga and the Gibraltarian Lincoln Red Imps, with fourteen, surpass them in this respect in European football.
