Fiorentina

ACF Fiorentina S. p. A., commonly called simply Fiorentina, is a sports organisation based in Florence, in the region of Tuscany, Italy. It was created as a football club on 29 August 1926, under the name Associazione Calcio Firenze. It ceased to exist in 2002 due to a severe financial crisis, but was refounded that same year under the name Fiorentina 1926 Florentia, before adopting its current name in 2003. Its legal form is that of a joint-stock company (in Italian: Società per azioni, S. p. A.), a requirement for Italian clubs to maintain their regular status.

It competes in the top tier of the Lega Nazionale Professionisti Serie A, the eponymous Serie A of Italy, uninterruptedly since the 2004-05 season, being the fifth Italian team with the most appearances in the competition, with seventy-six seasons since its establishment in 1929. Throughout its history it has won two League titles (Scudetti), in the 1955-56 and 1968-69 seasons, and five runners-up finishes. Its national honours are completed by six Coppe Italia and one Supercoppa, making it one of the most important and recognised football institutions in the country.

Governed by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) at national level, and by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), the highest football body, at international level, ACF Fiorentina was the first Italian team to win a competition organised by UEFA, after winning the first edition of the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1960-61. It is also one of the fifteen clubs in Europe that have played at least once in the final of the three main competitions organised by the highest European body: the European Cup in 1956-57, the UEFA Cup in 1989-90 and the aforementioned European Cup Winners' Cup, which remains the only international trophy won by the club, in which it was also runner-up in 1961-62. It was also runner-up in the UEFA Conference League in 2022-23 and 2023-24.

Identified by its purple colour, from which it takes the nickname "viola", it has played its home matches since 1931 at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, named Stadio Giovanni Berta at its founding, which has an approximate capacity of 47,300 spectators, the sixth largest in Italy. The ground is considered one of the most influential architectural works of Italian rationalism and of the city, itself regarded as one of the great cradles of art.
