Juventus of Turin (officially "Juventus Football Club S. p. A.", from Latin iuventūs, Spanish juventud, "youth"; IPA: juˈvɛntus), known simply as Juventus or shortened to Juve (IPA: ˈjuːve), is an Italian football club based in the city of Turin, capital of the Piedmont region. It was founded on 1 November 1897 under the name "Sport Club Juventus" by a group of local students.
It is the second oldest Italian football team among those still active, after the football section of Genoa, and, together with Torino, is one of the two professional football clubs of the Piedmontese capital. Linked to the Agnelli family since the 1920s, the club has played uninterruptedly in the top professional category of Italian football (called Serie A since 1929) since its debut in 1900, with the sole exception of the 2006-07 season. The club has played at home since 2011 at the Allianz Stadium, which has a total capacity for 41,507 spectators.
Juventus is the most successful team in Italy and at the same time one of the most decorated and renowned clubs in the world. It is the club with the highest number of official titles won in Italian football, with a total of 60 championships (36 league titles, 15 cups, 9 supercups). It was the first Italian and southern European club to win the UEFA Cup (1976-77 season) at the international level; it is worth noting that it is the sixth European club and thirteenth in the world with the most official international titles at the confederation and inter-confederation level, and also the first club in the history of European football to win the three main competitions organized by the Union of European Football Associations, and the first club in the world, and the only one until 2022, to win all the confederation competitions (not counting the Conference League) and the world club title.
In 2009, it was recognized as the best Italian club of the 20th century and second at the European level during that same period by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics, an institution recognized by FIFA. Its classic rivals are Torino F. C., with whom it plays the "Turin derby", A. C. Milan, with whom it plays the "derby of the champions", and Inter Milan, the club against which it plays the so-called "Derby d'Italia".
According to a survey carried out by the Demos Institute (September 2015), Juventus is the team with the largest number of fans in Italy, with 35% of preferences. In addition, the Turin team is one of the clubs with the most supporters in the world, with more than 290 million, of whom 41 million are in European territory, according to a report by the sports market research company Repucom S. A. in 2014.
