FC Rapid 1923

Rapid Bucharest (officially Fotbal Club Rapid București) is a Romanian football club from the city of Bucharest, in the Giuleşti district. It was founded in 1923 by a group of workers from Grivița under the name Asociația culturală și sportivă C.F.R., since the club belonged to the railway company CFR. It plays its home matches at the Rapid-Giulești Stadium, owned by the Romanian Ministry of Transport, and plays in the Liga I.

Rapid's honours include three Romanian league titles, thirteen cups and four super cups, which makes it one of the most successful teams in the country and places it third in the all-time table of Romanian football. The club was founded as CFR București, later renamed Rapid București and Locomotiva București between 1950 and 1958, the year in which it returned to its current name. Rapid was the representative team of the railway workers and in the communist period received aid from the Ministry of Transport, but since 2006 it has been an incorporated company whose majority shareholder is the businessman George Copos.

Rapid's traditional colours are claret red and white, colours also representative of CFR, and its badge has changed considerably throughout its history. Its main rivals are Steaua București and Dinamo București, the other two big clubs in the capital. It also maintains some rivalry with CFR Cluj, a club also linked to the Romanian railway sector. It even played in the Romanian Liga V, because of an administrative relegation caused by the club's bankruptcy in June 2016.
