Deportes Temuco

Club de Deportes Temuco is a football club from Chile, based in the city of Temuco, Araucanía Region. It was founded on 27 June 1916 and currently plays in the Primera B. The club also has a women's branch, which competes in the Primera B de fútbol femenino de Chile.

Throughout its history it has had various names. On 26 February 1960 the Corporación Club de Deportes Temuco was created, which merged on 20 March 1965 with Club de Deportes Green Cross of Santiago, forming "Club de Deportes Green Cross-Temuco". In 1985 it was renamed "Club de Deportes Temuco". During the 2007 season it was called "Deportivo Temuco", returning to its previous name the following season. On 13 June 2013, the club absorbed Unión Temuco, keeping its name.

The colors that identify the club are white and green. Meanwhile, its crest, which reproduces the image of a Maltese cross (or cross pattée) with a letter "T" over it, has its origins in Green Cross and in Deportes Temuco, respectively. The name of the club comes mainly from the city it represents, a name that derives from "Temuko", a word in the Mapudungun language meaning "water of the temu". The temu is a tree endemic to southern Chile.

The club, as the successor entity of Green Cross, has the only Primera División title in its history and 2 Segunda División titles, recognized by the ANFP. As Corporación Deportes Temuco it won one Campeonato Regional de Fútbol title and, once the merger with Green Cross was completed, 3 Segunda División or Primera B titles. With a total of 5 Primera B trophies it is the club in Chile with the most titles in that category. The Campeonato de Apertura de Segunda División is added to its honors list.

According to the IFFHS, Deportes Temuco ranks 158th in the ranking of the best South American clubs of the first decade of the 21st century (2001-2010) and 164th in the ranking of the South American Club of the 21st Century.
