Motagua

Fútbol Club Motagua, or simply Motagua, is a football club based in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. It was founded on 29 August 1928 and has competed in the Liga Nacional de Honduras since it was inaugurated in 1965. At the international level, it has taken part in various competitions: the Concacaf Champions' Cup, the Concacaf Champions League, the Concacaf League, the Concacaf Giants Cup, the Copa Interclubes and the Copa Sudamericana (together with Alajuelense, the only clubs in Central America that have taken part in official Conmebol tournaments).

It was officially founded under the name Club Deportivo Motagua. Since its creation, its honours record 28 official titles at the national and international level, including the semi-professional era of Honduran football. Motagua is considered one of the most decorated clubs in the country and, for that reason, is included among the "four big clubs of Honduran football". Throughout its history, it has won 18 league titles, one Supercup and one Cup. In addition, in 2007 it won the last edition of the Central American Football Union (UNCAF) club tournament, defeating Saprissa.

Motagua plays its home matches at the Estadio Nacional. The first team's training sessions take place at the Complejo Deportivo Pedro Atala Simón, which is owned by the club. Together with its traditional rival, Olimpia, it contests the Clásico of Honduran football, a sporting event that the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) considers the "derby with the greatest tradition in Honduras". Likewise, it maintains significant rivalries with Marathón, against whom it plays the Clásico de las M's, and Real España.

Together with Olimpia, Marathón and Real España, it is one of only four clubs that have played in every edition of the Liga Nacional, in which it holds second place all-time (in terms of overall statistics and number of titles won). FIFA recognizes Motagua as one of the two Honduran clubs listed among the "classic clubs of the world", as is its fierce rival Olimpia.
