Godoy Cruz

Club Deportivo Godoy Cruz Antonio Tomba, popularly known as "Tomba" or simply "Godoy Cruz", is a sports institution from the city of the same name in Greater Mendoza, Mendoza Province, Argentina. It was founded on 1 June 1921 under the name Club Sportivo Godoy Cruz, although it adopted its current name on 26 September 1930, after merging with Club Bodega Antonio Tomba, an entity that had been founded in 1899 by the workers of the historic winery under the sponsorship of Don Antonio Tomba.

The club owns a football stadium, the "Feliciano Gambarte", with a capacity for 15,000 spectators, which, for safety reasons, is not approved by the Asociación del Fútbol Argentino to host Primera División matches. For this reason, it has long played its home matches at the Estadio Malvinas Argentinas, owned by the province, located in the Parque General San Martín in the city of Mendoza and with a capacity of more than 45,000 spectators.

It is considered one of the four big teams of Mendoza football, together with Independiente Rivadavia, Gimnasia y Esgrima and Atlético San Martín; nationally, it is the Mendoza club that has played the most seasons in the Primera División, with a total of fifteen participations; it is also the first and only club in the Cuyo region that has taken part in international tournaments, with a total of six participations.

Its classic rival is Andes Talleres, with whom it plays the "Clásico godoicruceño". Other traditional rivalries are those it holds with Independiente Rivadavia and Atlético San Martín. It also has a modern rivalry with San Martín (SJ), with whom it plays the "Clásico de Cuyo".

Besides football —a sport for which it has obtained wide recognition— Godoy Cruz has ventured throughout its history into various sports, standing out in basketball, handball, roller hockey and volleyball as the main activities.
