Grasshopper Club Zurich

Grasshopper-Club Zürich is a sports club from the Swiss city of Zürich. With 4,500 members it is the largest club in its country, although it is recognised mainly for its football team, which is the oldest section of the club, founded in 1886. The origin of the name Grasshopper is unknown, although the most common explanation refers to the celebrations after goals by early players and to their style of play, which was agile and energetic. It currently plays in the Swiss Super League, the top division of Swiss football.

With more than 46 titles, Grasshopper-Club Zürich is the most decorated team in Swiss football, having won the Swiss League 27 times and the Swiss Cup 19 times. The club is the oldest football team in Zürich and shares a great rivalry with FC Zürich, and with FC Basel it contests the country's classic, as the most decorated clubs with the greatest national support. After several appearances in the European Cup and the UEFA Champions League, Grasshopper has become one of the best-known football clubs in its country. Until 12 May 2019, it was the only club never to have been relegated and to have played in all 119 editions of the Swiss championship since 1897.

It maintains an intense rivalry with its neighbours FC Zürich, with whom it contests the Zürich Derby.

In addition to its main football team, the club has competitive professional and youth teams in rowing, ice hockey, field hockey, handball, tennis, curling, rugby, squash, floorball, women's football and beach soccer.

On 17 January 2024, a long-term partnership was announced with the Major League Soccer team Los Angeles FC, with LAFC acquiring more than 90% of the shares from the previous owners, Champion Union.
