FK Željezničar is a professional football club based in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"Željezničar" means Railway Worker, since it was created by a group of railway workers.

The club was founded in September 1921 in Sarajevo and is the most decorated football team in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

During the era of the former Yugoslavia, FK Željezničar was a member of the Yugoslav First League and made its debut in 1946, the first season after the Second World War. They were proclaimed champions in the 1971-72 season, which is the only Yugoslav league title in their honours list. They also finished runners-up in the 1970-71 season and finished third on two occasions. Željezničar were finalists in the Yugoslav Cup in 1981, losing to their fellow Bosnian rivals Velež Mostar.

After the Yugoslav wars, Željezničar became one of the most important members of the Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina and of the Bosnian Premier League, of which they have been proclaimed champions on four occasions. Their greatest European achievement was reaching the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup in the 1984-85 season, when they lost to Videoton on the away goals rule, while their greatest achievement in Europe as a Bosnia and Herzegovina club was in the 2002-03 Champions League, reaching the third qualifying round, where they were eliminated by Newcastle United.

Željezničar maintain a strong rivalry with their rivals from the capital, FK Sarajevo, a match known as the Sarajevo derby, the most important club football match in Bosnian football, which is played regularly, as both teams are part of the Premijer Liga. Great talents of Yugoslav and Bosnian football have emerged from the club's youth ranks, among them Ivica Osim, Mehmed Baždarević and Edin Džeko.
