NK Olimpija Ljubljana

Nogometni klub Olimpija Ljubljana was a football club based in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia.

It was founded on 9 May 1911 under the name "Ilirija" and after the Second World War adopted its traditional name. During the period of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, its best moment was when it took part without interruption in the Yugoslav First League, the top category, from 1965 to 1984. It was also a finalist in the 1970 Yugoslav Cup.

When Slovenia became independent in 1991, Olimpija was one of the founders of the Slovenian First Division and became one of its most powerful sides: it won four consecutive leagues (1991–92 to 1994–95), four cups (1993, 1996, 2000 and 2003) and the 1995 Super Cup. It also represented the country in UEFA international competitions.

The entity declared bankruptcy in 2004 and was dissolved at the end of the same year, although the Football Association of Slovenia allowed it to finish the 2004–05 season. On 2 March 2005 a new club was created, NK Bežigrad, which brought together Olimpija's supporters, adopted its club colours and three years later changed its name to that of the historic club. However, it is not considered a legal successor nor can it claim the achievements of the previous team, according to the laws of the country. The new team currently plays in the Slovenian First Division.
