It is the only Greek provincial team that has managed to win the Greek Championship, and this took place during its so-called golden decade, in the period 1987–88, while it has also won two Greek Cups (1985 and 2007).

A.E.L. has also taken part in European competitions, such as the UEFA Cup in 2007. The team has continued to grow and evolve, making important contributions to Greek football.

The venue for all of the team's official matches in recent years has been the AEL FC Arena, with a capacity of 17,118 spectators. They played at home again at the Alcazar Stadium between 2020 and 2023.

The team has many fanatical supporters and has built a strong competitive relationship with other important teams in Greece, such as PAOK of Thessaloniki F.C. and Olympiacos Football Club.

Overall, it has proven to be one of the most important and recognizable football teams in Greece and in the world of sport in general.
