Atlético Bucaramanga

Club Atlético Bucaramanga is a Colombian football team based in the city of Bucaramanga, capital of the department of Santander, which takes part in the Categoría Primera A championship, the top category of the División Mayor del Fútbol Colombiano.

Officially founded on 11 May 1949 under the leadership of Rafael Chaberman, a merchant from Barranquilla, who together with several citizens of the time, mostly belonging to the Liga Santandereana de Fútbol, took the initiative to create a club that would represent the people of Santander. In 1948, still without being made official as a football club, it had a year of active "amateur" participation at the local level.

Atlético Bucaramanga played its first season in Colombian professional football in 1949, a championship in which it has played 72 seasons in the Primera A. The club has also been relegated to the second division on three occasions: in 1994, regaining the category in 1995; in 2001, without the relegation having been completed, since it kept its place in a triangular played in the city of Cartagena in which it finished second; and finally in 2008, being promoted after 7 years, in 2015. In this championship, its classic rival is Cúcuta Deportivo, playing the Clásico del Oriente Colombiano.

Its greatest achievement has been the league title won in the first half of 2024 against Independiente Santa Fe. Before that it had been champion of the Torneo Adecuación 1996-97 against Deportes Quindío, although that was not officially recognized as a Colombian title. In the definitive final the club lost to América de Cali, obtaining its first and only runner-up finish and qualifying for the 1998 Copa Libertadores de América. Likewise, it has won two Primera B titles, in 1995 and 2015.

In December 2016 the professional women's team, Atlético Bucaramanga Femenino, was founded to compete in the Liga Femenina; it played in the league until 2023, and will reappear in the league in 2025.
