Cobresal

Club de Deportes Cobresal is a Chilean football team from the city of El Salvador, located at an altitude of 2,600 m above sea level in the Andean foothills of the commune of Diego de Almagro, in the Atacama Region. It was founded on 5 May 1979 and plays in the Primera División de Chile.

Despite being a small team, it has become one of the most successful clubs of the regions and of northern Chile, winning the two main tournaments of Chilean football: the 1987 Copa Chile and the 2015 Torneo Clausura. It is one of the seven non-capital teams that have been crowned champions of the Primera División de Chile, together with Cobreloa, Santiago Wanderers, Everton, Huachipato, Unión San Felipe and O'Higgins. It was also runner-up in the Primera División tournaments of 1984, 1988 and 2023.

It plays its home matches at the Estadio El Cobre, which has a capacity of 12,000 people. Curiously, the capacity of the stadium is almost three times the population of El Salvador.

Its traditional rival is Cobreloa, with whom it contests the Clásico del Cobre, a club it faced in the Primera B from the Torneo Transición de la Primera B 2017 until the Torneo de la Primera B 2018. During the 1980s it contested the Clásico de la Región de Atacama with Regional Atacama. In the twenty-first century it began to develop a rivalry with Deportes Copiapó, a team it faced in the Primera B from the Torneo Transición de la Primera B 2017 until the Torneo de la Primera B 2018, and which it faces for the first time in the Primera División following the historic promotion of Deportes Copiapó.
