El Centro Deportivo Olmedo, better known as Olmedo, is an Ecuadorian sports organization based in the city of Riobamba. It was founded on 11 November 1919, and is the oldest and most traditional professional club in uninterrupted existence in Ecuadorian football. It currently takes part in men's and women's football: its men's squad plays in the Segunda Categoría, and its women's squad in the Serie A Amateur.
It is named in honor of José Joaquín de Olmedo, a poet and patriot from Guayaquil. Its best-known nickname is “El Ciclón Andino” (“The Andean Cyclone”); and, as the most popular team in the city, it is also called the “Ídolo Riobambeño” (“Idol of Riobamba”). In addition, as one of the oldest clubs in the country, being the longest-lived in uninterrupted existence yet one of modest resources, it is also known as the “Decano del fútbol ecuatoriano” (“Dean of Ecuadorian football”). Its greatest sporting achievement is its title in the 2000 Campeonato Ecuatoriano de Fútbol. It was also runner-up in that tournament in the 2004 edition, in addition to holding several youth-division titles. Its greatest rivalry is with Club Deportivo Macará, from the neighboring city of Ambato, as both are the most popular clubs in their respective cities; the two sides contest the Clásico Interandino. It also has a strong rivalry with Club Deportivo Técnico Universitario, another well-supported team in Ambato.
The club plays its home matches at the Estadio Fernando Guerrero, where it shares home duties with Técnico Universitario. The stadium has a capacity of 14,400 people and is owned by the Federación Deportiva de Chimborazo. Its training center is the Complejo Deportivo El Batán, located in the neighborhood of the same name in Riobamba.
